I take pride in my work because gratification is clearly not coming from my paycheck. I have covered politicians and bake sales, celebrities and church socials. I have run down sources in heels to get a story. I have ventured into neighbourhoods where even the cops don’t go. I am a photographer, reporter, columnist, copy editor, layout designer and all around jack of all trades. I am half of my newspaper’s editorial staff. My mistakes are visible for the world to see. I am accountable for everything on my paper’s pages. People stop me everywhere—and I mean everywhere—to tell me what’s right or wrong with their paper. I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world.
I am the editor of a weekly community newspaper.
